I recently saw the movie “The Color Of Freedom”. Its about Nelson Mandela’s life in prison, and the prison guard that was put in charge of watching him. It mostly centers on the guard, and his struggle with having sympathies for Native South Africans, whilst living in Apartheid South Africa, and working in the Prison System.
I Was really stoked by the movie (based off the Memoirs written by the guard about his time guarding Mandela), and it was sort of inspiring to see someone who was in a place to actually do something, and they did it.
THEN….
Upon further reading on the internet, it turns out that the guy fabricated his memoirs to make it seem like him and Mandela were secretly best buds, when in fact, they were more like kind part time friends. Even that was mostly lie, as James Gregory, the guard, spoke Nelson Mandela’s native language, so the South African Government asked him to befriend Mandela in the hopes of getting information out of him about the ANC (African National Congress).
It seriously left me with such a bummed out feeling. What people will do for fame and money.
On the other side, I found it completely interesting that the world (rightly so I think, so don’t get me wrong here) was completely behind Mandela, when in reality, he orchestrated hundreds of bombings in South Africa, which killed a lot of people by the end.
This is my blog. I write about anything and everything. Whatever is on my mind at the moment.Enjoy.
